KOR Parent Letter for Dec 6th

December 5, 2015

Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:

Can you believe that the Christmas season is finally upon us again?

This Month

Your K-5th grade children will be focusing on compassion which we are defining as, “caring enough to do something about someone else’s need.” Our memory verse will be John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV). Throughout the month, we will be lighting candles on our advent wreath to help us remember what Christmas is all about.

Your Pre-K children will be learning that “God gave us Jesus.” Their memory verse will be: “God has given a son to us” (Isaiah 9:6 NCV).

 This Sunday

Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged that “God loved you first. How will you love others?” through a lesson on 1 John 4:9-12. We will be lighting the “Bethlehem candle” which reminds us of God’s love for us in sending Jesus to Bethlehem. Parent Cue: This week, at dinner, ask: Who is God calling us to love as a family?

Your Pre-K children will be learning about when “God sen[t] an angel to tell Mary she will have a baby named Jesus and He will be God’s only Son” (Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46-49). Parent Cue: This week, during play time, pretend to be angels with your child. Fly around your house, stopping often to tell the good news: “God gave us Jesus!”

Upcoming Events

We want to give every family a little tool to use this Advent season to facilitate family talks about Jesus’ arrival. Please see Donna or myself (depending on your child(ren)’s ages) for yours.

We will be celebrating Jesus’ birthday with a party this Monday (Dec 7th) evening at 6:30pm-8pm. As birthday gifts for Jesus; we are asking the children to bring socks, hats, mittens, or scarves to be given to others in need. You could even have them wrap these up like birthday gifts.

You are invited to join us for our Christmas Eve service on Dec 24th at 6pm. The children will be singing a special titled “Happy Birthday, Jesus.” We are practicing our song during our regular children’s church time. If your child(ren) are particularly interested in singing in the service, please let me know so I can send a CD home for practicing. Also, there will be rehearsals on Dec 22nd and 23rd at 6:30pm.

Thank you for allowing us to invest in your precious children!

Pastor Bre

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
