We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
This is a very familiar scripture, but what does it mean to walk out our faith on a daily basis? How do we live by faith in the midst of a storm? How do we live by faith when what we are praying for hasn’t yet come to pass? I have learned that when walking through a season of trial, I must keep my focus on the things I know to be true. God is sovereign. He is good. He is always in control. When I focus on those truths, I experience peace regardless of my circumstances. We all have times when discouragement sets in, and it can be easy to give in to it. We have to be deliberate about receiving the peace God has for us. We have a choice whether to entertain the discouraging thoughts that run through our mind. Negative thought patterns quickly give way to discouragement. At times like that, I know I must take such thoughts captive and refocus my mind on what I know to be true, no matter what my circumstances are at the moment. If we focus on the truth of God’s sovereignty and His goodness, we can know that if we are praying, He is working and moving on our behalf. His timing is always perfect, and His purposes are eternal.
