This morning I asked one of my boys to do something and they responded with "I Can't". I reminded them that Can't is a four letter word and we don't use four letter words in our house. That might seem kind of extreme, but we believe that usually "I can't" really only means, "I don't want to badly enough to put forth the effort."
Many times we are faced with situations where we want to respond, I can't. It seems to difficult, impossible even, so why try. But the truth is, many times all we lack is the desire or the effort.
In the aftermath of the bombing at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, many of the runners continued past the finish line and continued to run to the nearest hospital where they met a great need by donating blood to aid the injured. Many would respond "I can't" to running 26.2 miles let alone donating blood afterward.
Maybe you are facing a challenge that seems insurmountable and you're tempted to say "I can't." Perhaps you're right, you can't on your own, but what if you had help? Paul wrote in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." But what about things that seem impossible? The Bible records many of the miracles Jesus performed. Jesus himself said in John 14:12, "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father."
So, the next time you are tempted to say "I can't", remember that can't is a four letter word and we can do all things through Christ.
