The Hard Days
Most of us experience a day now and then when we struggle to get going. It's hard to get out of bed, we don't want to go to work, we lack motivation. Some would say that's why God created caffeine but some days even a cup of coffee doesn't cut it. The same thing is true about pursuing a fitness goal or any discipline really. On the hard days you just don't feel motivated. It's at these times when we need to have people around us to lean on, to encourage us, to "spur us on". Programs like Weight Watchers have become successful, not because of any unique diet, but because they have linked diet with accountability and encouragement. I have experienced this truth many times, but most recently, on Saturday and Sunday when the CRT met. Both days I was experiencing a lack of motivation. To be honest, I really didn't feel like running. I was blessed to be able to run with Will Townsend and in the end, we ran 6 miles each day. He spurred me to push past the lack of motivation. The Bible tells us that this is how we are to live life together. Hebrews 10:24 "And let us consider how we may spur one another to love and good deeds." Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 "Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." The dreary weather this time of year can only add to the lack of motivation. That's a great reason to join the CRT. We meet rain or shine and you will always find a partner to run or walk with, someone to spur you on.
Here are the CRT training opportunities for this week. On Wednesday we will meet at noon at the Springfield entrance to Pre's Trail (the corner of Aspen and D Streets), on Saturday we will meet at 8 am at the River Bike Path behind Valley River Center (by the footbridge near the Cross Fit gym) and on Sunday we will meet at 3 pm at Clearwater Trail.
