In 1 Thessalonians 5:16- 18, it says Rejoice always, pray without ceasing and in everything give thanks; for this the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Even if you are homeless living in a tent in the middle of the woods, you can rejoice in the Lord.
I found this quote from the book, “To Heaven and Back” by Doctor Mary C. Neal : “I had always been a happy person and generally saw the rosy side of things but, joy is cleary different than happiness. It is not based on circumstances, but on the presence, hope, and promises of God.”
Isn’t this what happened to the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-31? He was happy as long as he was in control of his circumstances. When everything came to a crash after losing all his inheritance, the circumstances began controlling him. At that moment he found a path back to true joy. He went back to his father’s house and was accepted back into the family. Similarly, a sinner comes to the same realization. There is something more to life than just being born, and dying. In all reality, they bring nothing to God and deserve nothing from God, but must rely completely on God’s mercy.
Matt.25:40 And the king shall answer and say unto them, verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
