KOR Parent Letter for March 6th
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:
Welcome to March!
Your K-5th grade children will be focusing on hope-believing that something good can come out of something bad. Our memory verse will be John 16:33b: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (NIV).
Your Pre-K children will be asking the question “Why did god send Jesus?” The answer: “God sent Jesus to be my friend forever.” Their memory verse will be Matthew 28:20: “…I am with you always” (NIV).
What happens at home is more relevant than what happens at church. A conversation with you about what they are learning at church and how it applies to everyday life can be very meaningful.
Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged “whatever happens, remember how powerful God is” through the story of Lazarus rising from the dead (John 11). Parent Cue: This week, at dinner, ask: What are some big things you’ve seen God do?
Your Pre-K children will be learning that “God sent Jesus to teach us to love God and love people” (Luke 2:41-50; Matthew 5; Mark 2:1-2, 3:10). Parent Cue: This week, at bath time, teach your child how to count his/her toes. Then talk about how God sent Jesus to teach us how to love God and love people.
Don’t forget to “spring forward” your clocks this Sunday.
Mark March 11th (6:30-8:30pm) on your calendars for a family board game night! A pizza dinner will be provided.
We will be celebrating Easter Sunday (Mar 27th) at Springfield High School. Breakfast will be at 9:45am and the service starts at 10:30am.
The Awana Grand Prix will be held on April 23rd. Check-in will be from 1:30-2:00pm. We will begin racing at 2pm. All modifications to the cars need to be made before check-in. Cars need to be made with the Awana car kits that will be available for purchase ($5) beginning on Mar 16th. Cars must be no longer than 7”, no wider than 2 ¾”, no taller than 3”, and no heavier than 5 oz. We will open up the gym for a pre-event work shop on Apr 23rd from noon-1:30pm. At this time, the track will be available to run cars in addition to a scale, drill, and weights for making modifications. These resources will no longer be available at 1:30 when check-in begins. For more information: contact Melissa Carlsen.
If you do not have your own tools for cutting out their Grand Prix cars, John Egli has invited us over to his work shop (790 30th St Building E1, Springfield, OR - “Cozy Cruiser” is the name of his business) to use his tools on Apr 10th from 1:30-3:30pm. Parents are responsible for getting their children there. It is also mandatory that parents stay with their children.
Thank you for allowing us to invest in your precious children!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
