KOR Parent Letter for Apr 3rd
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:
Welcome to April!
Your K-5th grade children will be focusing on perseverance which we are defining as “refusing to give up when life gets hard.” Our memory verse will be Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (NIV).
Your Pre-K children will be encouraged that they can love God and people. Their memory verse will be Matthew 22:37-39: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart . . . Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged that “when life gets hard, God is with you” through the story of the Holy Spirit coming (Matthew 28:20, Acts 1-2). Parent Cue: This week, at bed time, read Acts 1-2. Pray together and ask God to remind you of His presence and to help you overcome any tough situations that you’re facing.
Your Pre-K children will be learning about Paul’s conversion (Acts 9:1-31). This life changing experience turned him into a lover of God and people. Parent Cue: This week, let your child wake up to, “Good morning! It’s time to love God and love people!” Remind your child every day that God loves him/her and He wants us to love people the way He loves us.
The Awana Grand Prix will be held on April 23rd. Check-in will be from 1:30-2:00pm. We will begin racing at 2pm. All modifications to the cars need to be made before check-in. Cars need to be made with the Awana car kits that are available for purchase ($5) on Wednesday nights after Awana. Cars must be no longer than 7”, no wider than 2 ¾”, no taller than 3”, and no heavier than 5 oz. We will open up the gym for a pre-event work shop on Apr 23rd from noon-1:30pm. At this time, the track will be available to run cars in addition to a scale, drill, and weights for making modifications. These resources will no longer be available at 1:30 when check-in begins. For more information: contact Melissa Carlsen.
If you do not have your own tools for cutting out their Grand Prix cars, John Egli has invited us over to his work shop (790 30th St Building E1, Springfield, OR - “Cozy Cruiser” is the name of his business) to use his tools on Apr 10th from 1:30-3:30pm. Parents are responsible for getting their children there. It is also mandatory that parents stay with their children.
The Cubbie (Pre-K Awana) Boxcar Movie Night will be April 20th during our regular Awana time. See Donna Nickell for more information.
Thank you for allowing us to invest in your precious children!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
