KOR Parent Letter for Apr 10th
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:
I hope you have had a great week!
Your K-5th grade children will be challenged that “when life gets hard, remember how others persevered” by a lesson on Hebrews 11-12:1. Parent Cue: This week, at dinner, ask your children: “What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do? How did you get through it?” Be sure to share an experience of your own.
Your Pre-K children will be learning about the early church: how it grew and how they shared with each other (Acts 2:42-47). Parent Cue: When you get in the car, talk with your child about where you are going and the people you will see. Brainstorm ways you can love the people where you are going so you’re ready when you get out of the car. Grocery store? A big smile and “have a nice day” works. Play date with friends? Sharing and giving a hug or a high five are good ideas.
The Awana Grand Prix will be held on April 23rd. Check-in will be from 1:30-2:00pm. We will begin racing at 2pm. All modifications to the cars need to be made before check-in. Cars need to be made with the Awana car kits that are available for purchase ($5) on Wednesday nights after Awana. Cars must be no longer than 7”, no wider than 2 ¾”, no taller than 3”, and no heavier than 5 oz. We will open up the gym for a pre-event work shop on Apr 23rd from noon-1:30pm. At this time, the track will be available to run cars in addition to a scale, drill, and weights for making modifications. These resources will no longer be available at 1:30 when check-in begins. For more information: contact Melissa Carlsen.
There will be a concession stand at the Grand Prix where we will be selling snacks as a fund raiser for Awana. Bring some cash if you would like to take part in this.
If you do not have your own tools for cutting out their Grand Prix cars, John Egli has invited us over to his work shop (790 30th St Building E1, Springfield, OR - “Cozy Cruiser” is the name of his business) to use his tools THIS SUNDAY (Apr 10th) from 1:30-3:30pm. Parents are responsible for getting their children there. It is also mandatory that parents stay with their children.
The Cubbie (Pre-K Awana) Boxcar Movie Night will be April 20th during our regular Awana time. See Donna Nickell for more information.
Have a great rest of your week!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
