Word Power

April 9, 2016

Words have such power.  With our words we can encourage or tear down.  Hawk Nelson  recorded a song called Words that says in part, " Word can build you up, Words can break you down, Start a fire in your heart, Or put it out."  What a great truth!

As believers we are called to encourage one another.  1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up."  2 Corinthians 13:11 it says essentially the same thing.  Hebrews 10:24 says we should "spur one another on to love and good deeds".  One of the best ways to do that is thorough words of encouragement.

I've been blessed this week with many encouraging notes and phone calls as I heal from a fall.  I have experienced first hand the power of an encouraging word.  More than once, I received a text or a phone call at a time when I was beginning to feel discouraged.  That's what we are called to do.

I've often noticed that the running community is especially good at encouraging.  Several years ago Diane and I ran an Exterra Extreme 10K in Hawaii.  The race was for amateurs and was held the day before the Exterra World Triathlon Championships.  We were amazed to find that the people staffing the aid stations along the route and lining the trial to shout encouraging words were the professional participants who would be running the following day!  What an encouragement.  They took time from their preparations to encourage average runners.

When we take the focus off of ourselves and take time to encourage others, it will not only bless them, but we will also be blessed.

Some of us will be serving in Mexico this week, but the CRT will still get together for times of training and encouragement.  On Wednesday we will meet at noon at Clearwater Trail.  On Saturday we will be back at Pre's Trail in Alton Baker Park at 8 am and on Sunday we will meet at Clearwater Trail at 4 pm.  Come join us for some training and to give and receive words of encouragement.

Have a great week!

Pastor John
