KOR Parent Letter for Apr 17th
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Mentors of Calvary:
I hope that this finds you well.
Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged that “when life gets hard, remember what Jesus did for you” with a lesson based on Hebrews 12:2-3. Parent Cue: This week, at bed time, read Hebrews 12:2-3. Ask, “What do you think motivated Jesus to save us? What motivates you to keep going when things are hard?” Be sure to share what motivates you. Conclude by asking God to help both of you focus on Jesus during hard times.
Your Pre-K children will be learning that “we can love people any time” through the story of Peter and John healing a crippled man (Acts 3:1-16). Parent Cue: This week, get some rectangle sponges and cut them into heart shapes. Give them to your child as a surprise to play with during bath time. Talk about how the heart shape reminds us of love and that the way we treat people can remind others of love too.
The Awana Grand Prix will be held THIS Saturday (April 23rd). Check-in will be from 1:30-2:00pm. We will begin racing at 2pm. All modifications to the cars need to be made before check-in. Cars need to be made with the Awana car kits that are available for purchase ($5) on Wednesday nights after Awana. Cars must be no longer than 7”, no wider than 2 ¾”, no taller than 3”, and no heavier than 5 oz. We will open up the gym for a pre-event work shop on Saturday (Apr 23rd) from noon-1:30pm. At this time, the track will be available to run cars in addition to a scale, drill, and weights for making modifications. These resources will no longer be available at 1:30 when check-in begins. For more information or to volunteer: contact Melissa Carlsen.
There will be a concession stand at the Grand Prix where we will be selling snacks as a fund raiser for Awana. Bring some cash if you would like to take part in this.
The Cubbie (Pre-K Awana) Boxcar Movie Night will be THIS Wednesday (April 20th) during our regular Awana time. See Donna Nickell for more information.
Join us on May 14th from 11am to 1pm for our annual Mother/Daughter Tea where we will be encouraged that we are God’s masterpieces. For more information or to volunteer: contact Gayleen Peterson.
Have a wonderful weekend!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
