His Plan vs. My Plan

August 30, 2016

I realized today that one of the greatest sources of stress in my life is when I have a plan and I'm forced to change it.  I get stressed when I plan to run and something comes up, it doesn't matter much what, so that I can't run.  I get stressed when I have a project that I want to work on and instead I have to fix a leaky faucet.

Today, I had plans.  So much to do and no time for interruptions to my plan.  As you might imagine, the wheels came off my plan early in the day and my plans continued to get derailed time and time again as the day progressed.  Then it happened. I was having one of those moments where, I act like I'm praying but I'm really just whining to God.  Which isn't such a bad thing...God knows my heart, so it's best to just be honest.  But in that moment, as I whined to God, "Why is this happening?  My plans for the day are getting ruined", the Holy Spirit brought this verse to my mind.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11

In that moment, I realized that the God who promised that He has a plan for each of us, is also the God who is in control.  Clearly, His plans are better than my plans.  I'm sure I will try to force my plans again, rather than accept interruptions as God inserting His "better" plan.  I'm kind of a slow learner.  Thankfully, God is patient with me and with you.  So if you find yourself, like me sometimes, trying to force your plan, instead of trusting God's plan, maybe this reminder will help you too.

It's little life lessons like this that we share with one another when we meet to walk or run.  If you haven't joined the CRT for a run/walk lately, we'd love to see you again.  This week we will be meeting on Wednesday at 7 pm at Clearwater trail, on Saturday at 9 am at Dorris Ranch and on Sunday at 7 pm at Clearwater Trail.

I hope to see you there.

Have a great week!

Pastor John
