KOR Parent Letter for September 4th

September 2, 2016

Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:

Welcome to September!

This Month

Your pre-K and elementary children will be learning that they can trust God. For the elementary children, we are defining trust as: “putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.” Our memory verse will be Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (NIV).

As always, be on the lookout for opportunities to talk with your children about trust during the week. I am attaching some conversation starters called parent cues that you can use if you’d like.

This Sunday

Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged that “when you think you’re alone, you can trust God is with you” through the story of Joseph being sold into slavery (Genesis 37, 39:1-2). Parent Cue: This week, at bed time, read Genesis 39:1-2. Share about a time when you felt alone. Ask God to remind you both that He is always with you even when you feel alone.

Your pre-k children will learn that Noah built an ark because he trusted God (Genesis 6:8-33, 7:1-24). Parent Cue: This week, at bath time, let your child play with a toy boat in the tub. Talk about how Noah trusted God and built a boat just like God told him to do.

Upcoming Events

We will be kicking off Awana on September 14th at 6:30pm. Registration forms are available at the hub and the church office.

There are going to be some exciting, new changes to the T&T (3rd-6th grades) curriculum and how it is played out at Awana! If your child is in T&T or you volunteer with the T&T children, we hope you can make it to an informational meeting on September 7th at 6:30pm.

There will be an Awana all volunteer meeting on September 11th at 2pm (after the church potluck).

Join us for the “Gift of Parenting” seminar on October 14-15 (6:30-8pm on Friday and 9am-3:30pm on Saturday) as we unwrap the amazing, extravagant, (sometimes odd) gift of biblical parenting. Our facilitators are Mike and De'Etta Goecker. Mike is a retired AF chaplain and De'Etta has been involved in leading women's ministry for twenty-five years. Together they are the parents of nine children ranging in age from eleven to thirty-one. Sessions in this workshop include: The Amazing Gift of Parenting, The Gift of Mentoring, The Gift of Gratitude, The Gift of Why and The Gift of Legacy. Childcare (infant through 5th grade) will be provided in addition to lunch on Saturday. Registration is required. The registration fee will be $25 per couple and $12.50 for single parents. Stay posted for more information.

Thank you for allowing us to invest in your precious children!

Pastor Bre

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
