New Seasons

Last night the local weather station recorded the first measurable rain in months. The rain, the shorter days, the cooler nights and the falling leaves all indicate the changing season. It's only mid September and we will certainly have many more nice, warm days, but Fall is coming. It's just around the corner. While some might mourn the passing of summer, the changing seasons are actually one of God's blessings. In Deuteronomy, God told the Israelite's as they prepared to enter the promised land, that if they followed His commands, He would bring the seasonal rains as a blessing. It was an indication of His provision for them. "So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied." Deuteronomy 11:13-15 This morning, we ran in the rain for the first time in months. I have to admit, it was refreshing and a welcome change to the heat. While the idea of endless summer might sound appealing, God knows that to prosper, we need to change things up now and then. I read a while back about a fitness theory called "muscle confusion". The article stated that unless you change up your fitness routine every few months, your body will actually begin to take lazy shortcuts and benefit less than it did initially. To get the most benefit, the experts suggest that you change up your program regularly. So whether it's the changing seasons, or changing your fitness routine; change can be positive. As we move into the fall and winter, the CRT will continue to meet regularly to support and encourage one another. If you would like to join us this week we will meet on Wednesday at noon at the Springfield entrance to Pre's Trail (park at the corner of Aspen and D streets). We will NOT meet on Saturday. On Sunday, we will meet at 5:00 pm at Clearwater trail. I hope to see you there. Have a great week! Pastor John
