I took our dog Scotch on a much needed walk today, and on our way back home from the park, there was a little dog roaming around in a front yard. Tightening Scotch's leash around my hand, I prepared myself for when that little dog would spot us. I just knew that it would approach us, and when it did, it could be bad. Scotch does not play well with his own kind.
Sure enough, I saw the moment when the little dog became aware of our presence. As he started to run across the street towards us, I sent up a prayer for some help as I planted my feet firmly, and maneuvered Scotch behind me. When the dog got to the middle of the road, I boldly looked the little dog in the eye, pointed at him, and firmly told him to STOP.
The dog obeyed.
"Go on and get. Go on! GO!" I demanded firmly. I wasn't having any dog fights today! I could tell when the little dog recognized that he was dealing with someone with authority(which I believe the Lord was in that). He lowered his head a bit, and looked a little unsure. But like a child who tries to test the boundaries, he took a few steps closer to us. "Nu uh! Stop! You go on home. GO ON."
With one last unsure look at me, the little dog turned and left in the other direction.
This is the boldness I want when it comes to dealing with the sneaky attacks of the devil. Often times though, he puts that little lie in my head, that I would look crazy if I rebuked him in Jesus's name. That it wouldn't really work. That it would take much more than that to get him to go on and quit.
What a liar.
Here are a few verses of God's truth regarding boldness:
"The wicked flee when no one is pursuing them, but the righteous are as bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1
(I felt like a lioness today, telling that dog to go away).
"When they PRAYED, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak God's message with BOLDNESS." Acts 4:31
(When Journey assembles together and prays, I want the house to be shaken, and us to be so filled with the Holy Spirit, that when we go through the rest of the week, we will proclaim God's message with boldness!)
"This is according to the purpose of the ages, which He made in the Messiah, Jesus our Lord, in whom we have BOLDNESS, ACCESS, AND CONFIDENCE THROUGH FAITH IN HIM." Ephesians 3:11-12
(Love that verse for our Ephesians 3 discussion this week!)
"Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with BOLDNESS, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time." Hebrews 4:16
(I love that we can approach His throne with boldness, to receive mercy and find grace to help us!)
I love that God's word, His truth, obliterates the devil's lies.
My prayer for our Journey group, is that we will become wiser to the sneaky attacks of the devil, and that we will become bolder in telling him to go on and get, in Jesus's name!
My cowering days are over, I am done with letting the devil have his way in so many areas of my life and relationships. I am ready to fight and battle it out with him. My weapons of choice: prayer and God's word. Daily I am chosing to put on the Full Armor of God.
