KOR Parent Letter for Dec 4th
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:
Your K-5th grade children will be focusing on joy which we will be defining as “finding a way to be happy even when things don’t go your way.” Our memory verse will be Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!” (NIV). Throughout the month, we will be lighting candles on our advent wreath to help us remember what Christmas is all about.
Your Pre-K children will be learning that Jesus is God’s son as they count down to Christmas. Their memory verse will be Luke 2:10: “I bring you news of great joy” (NLV).
Family Advent Activity
We have a gift for all our families with pre-k and elementary aged children. It is some supplies for baking a birthday cake for Jesus. We hope that you will find time this month to bake a cake and celebrate Jesus’ birthday at home with your children. We will be handing these out on Sunday.
Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged that they “can have joy because God keeps His promises” with a look at the prophecies about Jesus (Isaiah 9:6-7). We will be lighting the first purple candle on our advent wreath which is called the prophecy candle and reminds us of the hope we have in Jesus. Parent Cue: This week, at dinner, ask: how can you choose to be joyful even when you don’t get something you want?
Your Pre-K children will be learning about when God sent an angel to tell Mary she would give birth to God’s son and His name would be Jesus (Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46). Parent Cue: This week, at play time, play “Good News Tag.” Have one person run to another and say, “God’s Son will be born and His name will be Jesus!” Tag and repeat!
We will be celebrating Jesus’ birthday with a birthday party on December 5th at 6:30pm-8pm. Please have your children bring new hats, socks, or gloves to be given to the homeless as gifts for Jesus. You could even have them wrap them up like birthday gifts.
There will be no Awana on Dec 21st and 28th.
Thank you for allowing us to invest in your precious children!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV84).
