What is Your Plan?
Welcome to all those who are just joining the Calvary Running Team. We are honored for you to train with us and we look forward to helping you achieve your goals. The weekly emails I send out are intended to not only help you be successful in your fitness or running goals, but also to be successful in life. So here we go: One of the most important steps to achieving any goal is to have a plan and to be disciplined in following your plan. If you desire to prepare for a half or full marathon, the plan part is easy - it's the discipline that requires some effort. As soon as you input your target goal and distance and get your training schedule for the first week, something will come up to distract you or derail your plan. It just happens. That is why it's so helpful to be part of a training team. We provide encouragement, support and accountability. And we sometimes gently push one another! In the end though, it's determination, discipline and focus on a goal that will help you stick with your plan, get you through your training and help you to be successful on race day. The cool thing is that this process doesn't just apply to running or fitness, it really fits in any area where we are striving to improve. In 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 the Apostle Paul described this same process for those desiring to live a pure, godly life. He even put it in terms of physical training as an illustration. This is what he said; "I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified." Many of us have a goal in mind for the PNW Marathon and we are just beginning to train. Many of us also desire to live a live that is pleasing to God. As we meet together each week, we will encourage one another to stick with our plan, be disciplined and together we'll reach our goals. That's what we do. We live life together. Come and join us for a run or walk this week. All of our runs this week will begin and end at the parking lot at Clearwater trail off Jasper Road. On Wednesday we will meet at noon. On Saturday we will meet at 9 am and on Sunday we will meet at 3 pm. Please note that there is the possibility of ice or snow in the forecast. We RARELY cancel a training run, but sometimes we are forced to for safety. If we have to cancel a run, we will post a notice on our webpage. To check it out, simply go to www.calvaryopenbible.org, click on Community Groups, and click on Calvary Running Team. We will post any updates there. You are also welcome to call me at the number listed below at anytime. I hope to see you out there this week. Have a great week! Pastor John
