One of my least favorite words is "Can't". I've often told my kids that "can't" is a four letter word. Usually, when someone says "I can't" it really means they don't want to badly enough. I've found this to be true in many areas of life. I love the stories of people who refused to accept that they couldn't do something.
Margaret Hagerty is one example. Margaret is 90 years old and holds the Guinness Record for the "oldest person to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents". What is even more amazing is that she didn't begin to run until she was 64 years old, and then it was only a means to help her stop smoking. At an age when most would say, "you're too old to take up running", Margaret began, and she didn't stop. She didn't let "I can't" or "you're too old" stop her. Instead, she made a plan and proved everyone wrong.
I love the verse that says, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." (Philippians 4:13) Whether it is a fitness goal, spiritual growth, continuing education or a new job, don't let anyone tell you "you can't".
And when you decide you can, come join the Calvary Running Team and we will encourage you to reach your goal. We have runners and walkers of all abilities and we would love to support you. On Wednesday we will meet at noon at the new Millrace extension to the Clearwater trail. It's on the corner of 32nd street and Jasper road, between Agnes Steward school and Douglas Gardens school. We will not meet on Saturday this week. On Sunday we will meet at Clearwater trail at 3 pm. I hope to see you out there.
