The Summer and Winter Olympic games are consistently the most watched television events in the United States. We love to watch competition and we love it when athletes who represent the U.S. do well. Everyone watches the medal count to see how the U.S. is doing compared to other countries. Today was the 121st running of the Boston Marathon, the premier running event of the year. And it was a banner day for American runners. For the first time since 1986, and American runner was in the top three for both men and women. American Galen Rupp was second for the men and Jordan Hasay placed third for the women. Both are former University of Oregon runners so they not only represented the U.S. well, they also made the U of O proud. Most of us will never have the opportunity to represent our country in a sporting event, but if we are believers, we all have a greater responsibility; to represent Jesus Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:20 the Apostle Paul wrote, "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." An ambassador is a representative, someone who speaks on behalf of another. We may never get the opportunity to contend for a Gold Medal in the Olympics, but when we represent Jesus and are the catalyst that leads someone to reconciliation with God, our reward will be infinitely greater. And that is a goal worth striving for. The heart of the Calvary Running Team is to use our love for running/walking and fitness to build relationships with runners/walkers so that we will have opportunity to share the love of Jesus. We would love for you to join us. We will have three training times this week. On Wednesday we will meet at noon at the new Millrace extension to the Clearwater trail. On Saturday, we will meet at 9 am at Millrace and on Sunday we will meet at 5 pm at Clearwater trailhead. Note the new time for Sunday. I hope to see you out there. Have a great week! Pastor John
