KOR Parent Letter for May 7th
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Mentors of Calvary:
Welcome to May!
Your K-5th grade children will be focusing on determination which we are defining as “deciding it’s worth it to finish what you started.” Our memory verse will be Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (NIV).
Your Pre-K children will be encouraged that “God’s got it” and He loves them! Their memory verse will be Deuteronomy 10:17: “He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God” (NLT).
Your K-5th grade children will be encouraged to “keep going even when it gets hard” through the story of Pentecost and the disciples choosing to follow God despite being put in jail (Acts 2-4). Parent Cue: This week, at dinner, ask: what is your favorite thing to do that is sometimes hard?
Your Pre-K children will be learning about the time God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace and He rescued them (Daniel 3:10-28). Parent Cue: This week, at play time, play catch with your child. Every time one of you catches the ball, say: “God’s got it!” in place of “You (or I) got it!”
Moms and sons: stay after church this Sunday (May 7th) for the Mother/Son Amazing Race at 12:30-2:30pm! Lunch will be provided. We will start out in the gym. This is going to be a great time of having fun and making memories with the boys. Grandmas, stepmoms, aunts, and big sisters are welcome to come if mom is unavailable.
We are offering one more Awana handbook workshop on May 21st (1:30-2:30pm) for children to get caught up in reaching their goals in their handbooks.
Come out and celebrate with us all that God did in the hearts of our children at our Awana Awards Ceremony on May 31st at 6:30pm. A cupcake reception will follow.
As you have probably heard by now, Kids on the Rock is about to undergo some leadership change. I am resigning at the end of this month, having a baby in June, and will be moving to Alaska at the end of July. Please join me in welcoming Cindy Turner as our new children’s pastor. It has truly been an honor and joy to serve the families of Calvary! This has been one of the best season of my life!
Thank you for allowing me to invest in your precious children!
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV).
